Original description: Cellulae solitariae immobiles reiniformes (4 x 7μ) ante propagationem. Duo chromatophori parietales flavi quasi virides sine pyrenoide. Cellulae mobiles metabolicae (2-3 μ x 7-8μ) sine stigma. Flagella duo inaequalia (5 atque 13 μ) heterodynamica et haptonema circiter 2-4 μ magna est, saepe invisibilis. Flagellum quidem longum, squamis minutis morulaformis velatum. Plasmalemma corporis cellulae squamis nunca velata est. Typus collectus lapillus calcarius litoris apud Octeville (Seine-Maritime, France).

Before propagation cells are non-motile, solitary, reniform (4 x 7 µm). Two parietal chromatophores, yellow-green without pyrenoids. Motile cells metabolic (2-3 μ x 7-8μ), without stigma. Two unequal heterodynamic flagella (5 & 13 μ), also haptonema approximately 2-4 μ in size, often invisible. Long flagellum covered by a minute morula-form bodies. Plasmalemma body cells are now on stick to it. Type collected from calcareous beach pebbles at Octeville (Seine-Maritime, France).

Morphology:
The dominant stage consists of compressed green non-motile cells embedded in mucilage and this stage may form colonies. Cells are surrounded by a homogeneous mucilage layer. Flagellar bases occur in the ventral depression, the haptonematal base consisting of eight microtubules being inserted between the two flagellar bases. Thylakoid lamellae are often stacked, giving a granum-like appearance. Absence of thylakoid exvagination indicates that these structures are not grana as in green plants. No stigma and pyrenoid were observed. [Bendif et al. 2011]
