Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Coccolith families inc sed -> Alisphaeraceae -> Alisphaera -> Alisphaera capulata
Sister taxa: A. capulata, A. memoria, A. ordinata, A. quadrilatera ⟩⟨ A. extenta, A. gaudii ⟩⟨ A. unicornis, A. spatula, A. bidentata, A. pinnigera, A. sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Alisphaera capulata Heimdal in Heimdal & Gaarder, 1981
taxonomic rank: Species

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Alisphaera): Coccoliths placolith-like, with asymmetrical distal flange
This taxon: Flange extension L-shaped, sub-vertical. Teeth weakly developed. Central area elements short, leaving wide central opening instead of narrow fissure (but organic scale often present in central area).

Size:
Coccoliths 1.4-1.7 µm long.
