Original Description Test involute. planispiral. slightly asymmetric so that a few chambers of the penultimate whorl can be seen on one side, lobulate, almost circular in outline; periphery rounded; wall thin, smooth, very finely perforate; aperture peripheral but asymmetrically placed toward the more involute side, narrow, with a narrow lip. Etymology: Named in honor of W. A. Berggren. Extra details from original publication Discussion: Berggrenia cannot be placed precisely in the planktonic foraminiferal classification, because its antecedents are unknown. lt most closely resembles Pseudohastigerina the type species of which is Nonion micrus Cole, but differs from it in its aperture. which is restricted to the periphery, and in its more finely perforate wall. Whether or not Pseudohastigerina is synonymous with Globanomalina is still not clear, although it was so considered earlier (Parker. 1967). Berggren et al. (1967) believed the contrary. Some of the species referred to Globanomalina by Haque (1956) certainly are not congeneric with Pseudohastigerina, but the type species. Globanomalinaovalis Haque, closely resembles P. micra and, according to Loeblich and Tappan (1964) who studied topotypes of both, the two species are congeneric, Obviously, further study of topotypes is indicated.
