Original descriptions of taxa. For coccolithophores, and many calcispheres, these are pages from the Catalog of Calcareous Nannofossils. In other cases (e.g. non-calcifying haptophytes) the data is directly compiled on this site. The "Catalogue of Calcareous Nannofossils" was compiled by Prof A. Farinacci 1969-1989 and updated by Richard Howe 2000-2016 - see also this page.

Editors' Notes
misspelt, as Crepidolithus crucifier, on catalog page header.
The holotype lacks a clear cross-structure so the species was interpreted as a junior synonym of C. crassus by Bown 1987. If  specimens with unambiguous central crosses (similar to the sketch of Prins 1969) are found they should be described as a new species, with a new name. [my interpretation - JRY 2020]
