Original Description

Shell broadly egg-shaped, nearly one and half times longer than broad, greatest width slightly above the middle composed of a single, rather dense shell with a posterior pylome surrounded by rings of short spikelike spines, the diameter of the ring being about equal to a minor radius; surface generally smooth, but in one individual with many very short, fine needle-shaped spines; pores about eight to ten in a line across a minor radius, the pores funnel-shaped, often twisted irregularly; wall thick.

Size:
Length, 330µm; greatest width, 250µm. A dwarf individual was 170 by 120µm. The pores have a diameter of 8.8µm, the posterior spines of the pylome a length of 13.2µm, and the wall a thickness of 15.4µm.

Extra details from original publication
Distinguishing characters: Prunopyle occidentalis n. sp. differs from P. longisetosa Dreyer (1890), which it resembles in shape, in the lack of surface spines or thorns.
